The Coven - Saturdays review [Oct. 12th, 2008|05:44 pm]
A magnificent night from start to finish. All the spooky treats gone by just after 10pm, just over ninety by 11pm, and pretty much maximum by twelve, with still two hours to go! For those that didn’t make it, you really missed out. (Sorry to rub it in, but it’s the only way you’ll learn!)

October’s baffling but warm weather did make downstairs a tad on the unbearable side at times, but the industrial fans were found to ensure that the last few hours were bearable, which was just as well really, as it was packed until time was called.

Anyway, a great thanks to all that ventured in support, especially those that travelled the distance to keep us going strong. Also, a very happy birthday to all those in attendance to continue their celebrations. Hope your night was great.

Oh dear [Oct. 10th, 2008|08:31 am]
Loopy and I sat down to watch the dreadful Voodoo Academy purchased by [info]androktone for Loopys birthday. Just why she would want to give us a soft porn based horror souly dedicated towards a homo-erotic audience is beyond me! (and no stupid comments please!)

Needless to say, Loopy fell asleep half way through, and to be honest, I really wish I had done to! [info]lil_red_neck, I do believe I have found a film worst than Repo Man!

Oh, and Farcebook is currently down this morning. At least its Friday.

Even though we've been pretty busy gigging, last night we decided to blow caution to the wind and head down to The Blackhorse for a few jars, then off for a curry. Very enjoyable night, just the two of us catching up with each others day.

Anway, the weekend beckons once more, and its time once more again for the mighty Coven.

and but a week away, the epic

Reliving adolesence [Oct. 8th, 2008|08:20 am]
Last night saw my first encounter with one of my first loves of the early 80s band - OMD. Unfortunately, I arrived way too early and ended up having to listen to the unbearably boring China Crisis, who haven't lost any of their dreariness.

Eventually, OMD came on stage. I only recently found out that last year they performed Architecture & Morality in its entirety, so I was hoping for more of the same, plus earlier material like Pretending To See The Future/Red Frame White Light, but it was not to be. By the time Dazzle Ships had been released in early 83, I'd pretty much lost interest in OMD, and was only vaguely awaked to their other singles within the time continuum.

Classics prevailed like Messages, Joan of Arc, Enola Gay, Stanlow, Souvenir, Maid Of Orleans (which received an emotional standing ovation) with my favourite She's Leaving and Electricity, inbetween the rest of their back catalogue of pops greatest hits!

27 years in the waiting, all over in less than two hours. Great fun, but wouldn’t bother again.

Ironic? [Oct. 7th, 2008|01:45 pm]
One the same day my lovely new amplifier arrives, I get an apology email from the silly bitch that balled me out last week over the bullshit rumours I'm supposed to have started!

Ulimately, I'm doing them a favour anyway.

Errrr [Oct. 7th, 2008|11:23 am]
I've just found ou that China Crisis are supporting OMD tonight. Yuck. I really hated these in the 80s, so I'll be leaving later than originally planned in the hope I miss them completely ;)

Last night we watched Twelve Monkeys. I'd forgotten how much I love this film, regardless that Bruce Willis stars in it!

PC help [Oct. 6th, 2008|12:46 pm]
I can't get my pc at work to refresh. I've been hitting F5, even changed the temporary settings to 'every visit to the page' as automatic doesn't seem to make any difference.

The pc is 6 months old, so should be reasonably up to date. Any takers?

Short and sweet [Oct. 6th, 2008|08:47 am]
Friday night I ventured off on my own to the first Killing Joke gigs at The Forum. I arrived with just enough time to grap a drink (unfortuantely just coke though) a very quick hello to [info]zoltan66 and head down to the front for the mighty Treponam Pal. Imo, both bands were perfection. I stayed down the front for the whole gig, but directly next to the speakers, which resulted in me being deaf all day Saturday!
The journey home was absolutely freezing.

Saturday
We awoke pretty early, to a very cold house. I was too tired to remember top but the heating on, so for most of the day we sat under blankets shivering. In an attempt at confusing my brain, I ended up watching 1958s Ice-Cold in Alex in the hope it would think it was warm!

Again, come evening, Loopy joined me for the second Killing Joke gig, where thanks to a very slow and delayed train, we arrived later for the Treponam Pal performance. Whether it was just me being unsettled, but their performance was a not as good as the previous evenings. KJs performance I thought was also a little under par, and a tad too loud at times making the sound distorted. I was also disappointed that they played various songs the same as the night before. Considering their back catalogue, there was no real need for it. Highlight was hearing 'Turn To Red' and a new tune. The DJ for both nights was terrible. I didn't mind the selection, but mixing was not his forte - kinda reminded me of somebody else I used to know!

We made it back to our train with seconds to spare, regardless that the online timetable stated we had at least 6 minutes to catch the last train from Kentish Town and another one half an hour later if missed. Not impressed, but then I rarely am with todays train service.

Sunday, we had remembered to turn on the heating, although one of the two didn't turn on, but that was in another room, so it didn't really matter.
Come afternoon, I didn't feel very inspired to do anything, so opted for watching 1952s Scaramouche.

This week brings another gig in Camden with OMD @ The Roundhouse (again on my own) a friends 30th birthday celebrations, and the mighty The Coven on Saturday.

The Bullshit Brigade are at it again [Sep. 30th, 2008|05:53 pm]
It seems that somebody is spreading rumours that my colleague, DJ Rob, is to lose one of his nights at The Blackhorse, and is attaching my name to it.

Just to set the record straight, I know nothing about what is happening at the pub and have corroborated this with the current manager Paul, whom I haven’t actually spoken to since August.

If its anything to do with the current slow business of the pub, or the fact that the notice board hasn’t been updated since June and that one of Robs dates have been wiped off, I suggest you see the landlord for further details!

We have our suspicions who is doing this, as this is the second time I have been accused of spreading such pathetic accusations that only seem to damage my friendship with DJ Rob.

If you know of anybody that is saying anything regarding this, please tell them to keep their opinions up their arse where their head should be put!

[Sep. 29th, 2008|08:30 am]
Friday, after what had been a weird week all round, was plunged further into confusion by our train trip to the ecletic Dead & Buried, usually held on the last Saturday of the month. But, early warnings and good promotion ensured we didn't miss the Siouxsie & The Banshees Special.
(*Future dates for those that get confused - Friday 31st October, Saturday 29th November and Friday 19th December)

Again, we tried to coax more peeps down with us, but in the end [info]lil_red_neck, Loopy & I took the train down to D&B for a change so [info]lil_red_neck could drink. Considering the fact I've been going to London for gigs/clubs since 1986, I still managed to get utterly confused as to my bearings, but after [info]lil_red_neck had wolfed down a burger, we made our way to York Way, picking up another lost soul on the way. We arrived circa 10.20pm, and although pretty quiet, we all had an absolute blast. A very healthy selection of Siouxsie was played, new friends were made, but unfortunately, before we knew it, it was 2am, so we said our goodbyes and wandered slowly back to Kings Cross. After a nasty Starbucks reheated sandwich, our train pulled in at 3.22am and we made it home around 5am, very knackered.

Saturday wasn't pleasant. [info]lil_red_neck left around 9.30am to move his car, so Loopy and I decided to get up and do our chores. After a few hours, we both went back to bed, where we stayed until 5pm.

In the evening, we'd arranged to visit [info]_bunster_ at her new flat. After a bottle of white, Loopy promptly fell back to sleep, and left the inane chattering to me. 11.30pm came and I was also strugglnig to stay awake, so we said our goodbyes and taxied off into the night.

Sunday, again, not much happened. D&B really seemed to take it out of me this month, so I decided to start the epic journey through my MST3K box sets, with a viewing of the dreadful 1988 Hobgoblins, obviously made that much funnier due to the comments throughout!

I cooked a Sunday, then had an early bath, by which time was suitable to go to bed. Unfortuanetly we both awoke around 3am and didn't get back to sleep, thus starting our Monday both knackered!

This weekend brings the exciting gigs of Killing Joke in their original line-up. I know there's a hell of a lot of people I know going, so all I say is keep a look out for me as I'll be on my own on the Friday, but Loopy will be joining me for the Saturdays gig.

Waiting for the crash [Sep. 26th, 2008|08:46 am]
Granted, I work for the NHS, and we've discovered that our little surgery is just not making any money, mainly thanks to the government with local PCTs changing goalposts.

We're under-staffed, and still cutting back, reducing our recetption staff to just one person, regardless of personal health and safety, and with junkies coming in every day.
The doctors now have to work extra Saturday shifts without pay to comply with new guidelines.
It must be a certain freezing point before we're allowed to turn on the heating, yet we're drafting in locums at exstorsion rates like there's no tomorrow!

Anyway, I reported in August that my pc Office programs, mainly Excel was failing to open and informed the powers that be, that it'll only be a matter of time before they all crash. So after almsot a month off, I return to work, and no surprises, nothings changed. So today, Word decides its not going to work.

For the time being, I restored my pc back to Tuesday, but wrote a cutting letter to my boss to basically get it sorted or my last 3 years of work will be lost (although everythings backed up on my mp3 player, but she doesnt know that!)

Don't you just hate bosses that don't act in time. Same with the NHS. Preventive medicine being the best, yet fails to prove adequate when required!

The last of the cider [Sep. 24th, 2008|10:38 am]
Monday evening, whilst munching on indian food, Loopy & I watched 2001s Artificial Intelligence: AI, which considering is nearly two and a half hours long, she managed to stay awake for. Unfortuanetly, the same could not be said of last nights 1945 A Place of One's Own with Dennis Price (better know for 1949s 'Kind Hearts and Coronets') and James Mason.

We also celebrated the festival of Mabon, (which can be celebrated between 21st-23rd) which also falls on our tradition of charging our glasses (this time with what little cider we had left in the house, and would also account for Loopys tiredness!) of toasting another successful year together to go with the orignal handfasting ceremony performed at our wedding.

Personally, although I enjoy the summer months more, now that the dark nights are drawing in quicker, I can get back into the swing of watching more horror movies. And what with our recent extraordinary overpriced electricity bill threatening to make us into social recluses, looks like we're going to be snuggling under a blanket together for the next six months quite a lot!
